Low temperature reactions
A fast, precise, flexible and cost-effective way of achieving the necessary temperatures
Enable the very latest science by creating the low-temperature conditions necessary for fine chemical synthesis –using liquid nitrogen at -196ºC- to develop new and complex molecules.
Cooling as low as -100ºC can improve reaction selectivity, enable the safe processing of highly reactive compounds, and increase yields.
PolarFit® cooling systems
Air Products’ PolarFit® reaction cooling systems provide a fast, precise, flexible and cost-effective way of achieving the necessary temperatures:
- Indirect cooling: where a heat transfer fluid is cooled externally by liquid nitrogen
- Semi-direct cooling: where liquid nitrogen evaporates in a coil inside the reactor vessel
- Direct cooling: where liquid nitrogen is injected directly into a reactor vessel
The liquid nitrogen difference
Compared with mechanical cooling, reaction cooling with liquid nitrogen requires far less capital expenditure, and the simple, flexible systems are also cheaper to maintain.
Additionally, they offer:
- Fast cooling and accurate control of temperature
- The ability to also use the heat transfer fluids for heat cycle
- The re-use of the nitrogen gas as a plant utility.
